HELP HURRICANE KATRINA VICTIMS
Dear members and friends of the Washington Buddhist Vihara, As you are well aware, hurricane Katrina is the worst ever natural disaster to hit the US. It has caused tremendous devastation to the people of New Orleans and to communities in Louisiana, Mississippi and surrounding areas. While thousands of people have become homeless, at least one million are reported to be without power and other basic necessities. Many of us in the Sri Lankan community have experienced the worst agonies caused by the December 26 Tsunami last year, so we can imagine the hardships the victims of this major disaster are enduring. Above all, we have the moral responsibility to give a helping hand to the Americans living in the disaster-struck areas in this time of desperate need, not least because we can remember how helpful the Americans were when we Sri Lankans were hit by the Tsunami. In view of this, the Washington Buddhist Vihara Inc. asks for your contributions in support of the hurricane Katrina victims as soon as possible. Let us reciprocate a little bit of their hour of need. Thanks in advance for your compassion and generosity! Please contribute by sending a check or a money order with a memo saying “Katrina Relief work” to:
